My Favorite Artist

To begin, I will say that rarely do I have favorites. You may ask "What's your fave color?" I would answer "Blue and green, maybe turquiose." Another question--"what's your favorite book?" My answer--"Oh, I don't know...I like a variety." So when confronted with the question of who my favorite artist is, I realized I would have to choose one individual from the many talented artists I appreciate.

For about five years I have heard the Christian music artist Jeremy Camp on the radio. His first song captured my attention for a couple reasons. The style of music was described as being similar to that of Hootie and the Blowfish. The easy-going rock style of this group was incorporated with inspiring messages in the songs of Jeremy Camp. These inspiring messages were the second reason I was drawn to his music. At the time I was seriously doubting God's grace and guidance, and his song "I still Believe" spoke to me in a special way. My situation was quite different from his--he had just been through the loss of his wife to cancer. Yet through his music he shared an amazing message of hope that could apply to many situations. Every time I heard this song on the radio it would uplift me. He later wrote a song with similar meaning titled "Walk by Faith." Over the years his songs have discussed the sacrifice of Christ and our willingness to follow Him, appreciation for what we've been given, and the worship of Christ without distractions. For graduation, I received his latest album titled "Beyond Measure," and though his circumstances as well as his music have both evolved, his songs are still uniquely inspiring.

I feel that Jeremy Camp's songs have remained some of my favorites because of his musical style and the connection of his real experiences to his lyrics. His style is emotional and can take the listener from pensiveness to excitement in a matter of a few lines. Throughout his career I have heard about his life and how his struggles and triumphs correlate to his lyrics. These elements combine to form awesome music coming from an inspiring and improving artist.
